In spite of that, while you are carrying your baby, many people will be lining up to share their used furniture from their nurseries and their old crib bedding. When family and friends donate bedding and cribs for your baby, respond with gratitude. After all, adding a baby to the family is expensive. Before using any baby bedding, be sure that it is completely safe. Your baby's first bed is very important whether it is Moses basket or a crib. Before taking the bed home make sure beyond doubt that it is perfect. Always check baby bedding to ***ure safety. Wicker cradles or cribs can chip and splinter very easily so it's always a good idea to triple check them for sharp edges and it's always a good idea to replace the mattress because it may not be holding up as well as it should. While baby believes everything should go directly into the mouth, protect your infant by checking the skirt when fitting for loose threads or other choking hazards. Any loose threads or pieces of material may end up in the child's mouth, so when the drapes have been fitted, be sure to pick these things up. It is suggested by the Juvenile Products Manufacturer's ***ociation (JPMA) in America, and also by and British Standards (BS) in the United Kingdom, that you should not use old blankets and baby furniture if you can possibly replace them. Purchase new bed goods for your child's safety. Go in for JPMA or BS 'KITE' marked products. They are quite safe. As for me, receiving products that were used before is perfectly fine when safety is not an issue and when the furniture is in food shape, even if it is baby bedd |

As for me, receiving products that were used before is perfectly fine when safety is not an issue and when the furniture is in food shape, even if it is baby bedding. Spending the time and effort to ensure that your little one is safe in his crib is paramount as he will be spending quite a bit of time unsupervised, so doing the proper checks of his crib is of the utmost importance. These are some important things to consider when you do your baby safety equipment check. Be sure that snags that could catch on a baby's clothes, as well as all chipped, loose, or toxic lead paints, are removed. Make sure you purchase a crib where the bars are extremely close together, (closer than 2 & 3/8 inches apart), and there are no holes anywhere, to protect your baby's head. If your crib wobbles you must check the joints and fixings to ***ure that they are tightened. It's critical that the side rail's raising and lowering mechanism stays fully secured when raised in place, and one should be able to manage this simple task with one hand. The mattress should be at least 22 inches below the top of the rail, and the mattress should be clean, firm and made from good materials. A new baby deserves a new mattress all their own, but always make sure it fits properly and snugly in their crib. Nursery bedding can present a risk of suffocation, so tie bumper strings tightly and ensure that the baby can't pull down the bumper, or simply remove the bumper. Don't use comforters, quilts or other heavy bedding for babies that are under a year old since this can cause overheating. You should monitor the temperature of baby's room with a thermometer and keep sheets and blankets available to use accordingly. Babies are very quick little creatures, take climbing for example, before you know it they will have mastered the talent, that is why one should keep cords, lamps, window blinds/curtains and other pieces of furniture out of reach of the crib. Please have a safe and enjoyable time with your infant, as they quickly mature. About the Author: Dorothea is a writer and researcher on parenting and family issues.
